Vernon’s mayor and council will be getting pay raises in November.

A report on mayor and council remuneration will be presented at the regular meeting Monday, Oct. 23.

The remuneration is based on population and a four year Consumer Price Index average, with the mayor receiving $2.44 per person in Vernon, and council receiving the equivalent of 37 per cent of his salary.

The mayor’s base rate, based on the Statistics Canada’s population figure of 44,519, equates to $108,626.36.

“CPI is calculated on the base rate at the 4 year rolling average, which is 3.7% and equals $4,150 for the mayor and $1,535 for council members,” the staff report stated.

“The CPI is added to the base rate which in this case adjusts the mayor’s salary at $112,776.17 and councillors salary at $41,727.18.”

The new salaries would take effect November 7, 2023.

Council is recommended to receive the remuneration report for information.

Following a review of a remuneration committee last year, the city established a policy for an annual increase in remuneration for the mayor and members of council.
