An effort is underway to replace charity funding that was disrupted by the McDougall Creek wildfire.

This past Saturday, the West Kelowna Professional Firefighters Society was to host their annual fundraising golf tournament but it was put on hold due to the wildfire situation.

“This event raises $30,000 annually which is donated to organizations like the BC Burn Fund, BCG and other important projects that The West Kelowna Firefighters give back to improve their own community,” Angie Clowry, local community advocate said. “I contacted the Fundraising Group to see what we can do to help support not only this financial loss but with hopes to encourage our local fire fighting heros to keep doing what they do best, so us, the public, can support them to give back and hopefully show our appreciation.”

Clowry said many West Kelowna firefighters are currently evacuated themselves, or on evacuation alert and a West Kelowna firefighter family has lost their own home.

The funds raised with this initiative will go directly to the Local 4457 Professional Fire Fighter Charitable Society, aka West Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters Society.

“If 1200 people to donate $25 each, the annual amount raised would be achieved,” Clowry stated.

The West Kelowna Professional Firefighters will use the funds raised here to support those displaced by the fires or lost their home in the West Kelowna area, and will forward the funds to local agencies who support those who have lost their homes in the areas they serve.

The fund is currently over $17,000.
