On Sunday August 13th, 2023, Edna passed away peacefully at The Hamlets Care Home where she had
resided for the past 6 years, at the age of 92.
She is survived by her son Rusty, her stepchildren Gary (Hanna), Gord (Cathie), and Marianne (Robert),
4 grandchildren, Cailey, Brendon, Jane and Nicholas, and 2 great grandchildren, Peyton and Huxley, and
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edna was predeceased by her husband Greg in 1962,
numerous siblings and friends, and most recently by her longtime “partner in crime” and husband of 55
years Peter, in November of 2021.
Edna was born in Viking, AB into a large dairy farm family. She moved to Vulcan, AB in her early 20’s
where she had Rusty, then moved to Calgary. She worked as an ECG Tech at the Holy Cross Hospital
until 1968 when she met and married Peter and moved to Edmonton, where they lived till the big move
to Vernon, BC in 2013.
Edna had a hardworking, adventurous spirit and was always more than willing to pitch in for any project
and or trip that came across Peter and hers path. Together they rebuilt houses in Viking, established a
farm property at Pigeon Lake and so many other ”builds” and work projects, too numerous to list. Their
many travel adventures took them across Canada and the US in every direction, across the pond to the
UK, cruises to Alaska and the Panama, Mexico and they were regulars to land on their favorite
destination, the Islands of Hawaii.
Edna’s hobbies included gardening, selling Avon, knitting, baking and of course traveling. She was an
avid Blood Donor and was very proud of her many milestone pins and was recognized numerous times
for her donations both of blood products and the many quilts she knitted for the Alberta Cancer
Foundation.
Edna was very social and always up for anything and over her long lifetime made many wonderful lasting
friendships.
Sadly, the last decade of her life was stolen from her by a dementia that took her treasured memories.
Her family will be forever grateful for the loving care she received at The Hamlets in Vernon.
Mom is now free from the chains that bound her in her mind and body and can rest in peace and love.
