With heavy hearts and great sadness the family of Joseph Earl Anderson announce his passing on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 at the Gateby Care Center in Vernon, BC, at age 74. Joe will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Anderson, 2 children Teresa (Micheal) Illingby & Richard (Kim) Anderson, 4 grandchildren Kieran & Kylie Stewart and Kahlen & Taija Anderson and one great grandchild Forrest Stewart. His sister Margaret Rayburn as well as many nieces and nephews. He was born in Steveston, BC. He had 4 sisters and 1 brother. He started working at BC Packers fishing cannery and quickly found himself working on a commercial fishing boat where his lifelong love for the water began. He met the love of his life at the young age of 17 at the local drive-in in Richmond. They married in 1969. They settled in Richmond for several years and had their 2 children. There he was a full time firefighter. He was also a floor layer that he would do on his days off from the fire department. They decided to move to Vernon where Mary’s brother was already living to try a slower lifestyle in 1977. He worked for the Hudson’s Bay as a furniture and flooring salesperson as well as a volunteer firefighter at the Okanagan Landing Fire Hall. After this he went back to floor laying for a time then decided to give car sales a try. He was a car salesman until his retirement. He worked for several dealerships in Vernon including Rosman Brothers, Parkside Pontiac, Watkin Motors, Mike Rosman RV, Vernon Dodge and Swan Lake Motors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting at any chance he could get with his friends and family. He loved being outdoors and camping as well. He was always smiling, laughing and had a wicked sense of humor. He was quick witted and had a comeback for almost anything. Rest in Peace. We hope you catch the big fish out there with a drink in hand with your best friend Les Covey and your brother Dick Anderson. A mass of christian burial for Joseph will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Joseph will be laid to rest in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
