April 2, 1950 – August 4, 2023
Shirley Elizabeth Sampert, 73, passed away on August 4th, 2023 in Vernon B.C. at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Born to Albert & Elsie Short in Vancouver, BC; Shirley spent the beginning of her life growing up in England with her parents who she always spoke very fondly of, and her two loving brothers Richard and Robert. When she was five years old, her and the family relocated back overseas to the beautiful Canadian West Coast in Richmond B.C. to continue living the Canadian dream.
At only twelve years old Shirley met the love of her life Raymond Gordon Sampert; they enjoyed many great adventures together such as moving to Australia for over a year, working for CP Air and travelling as much as they could before settling back down in Richmond then having two children. Not long after, they chose to move to the Okanagan where she began her life-long career in real estate. She and Ray then enjoyed another thirty years together, spending time moving furniture around, telling numerous stories of their adventures around the world, and spending countless hours side by side relaxing under the sun, before losing him in 2021.
Shirley leaves behind two children, Dusty (Lana) Sampert and Kelly Bettcher, their children, (Tyson, Jackson & Thomas) as well as many other close friends and family.
The most important thing in life for Shirley was her family, she spent almost every waking minute trying to take care of them in every way she could until the very end, always putting the ones she loved most ahead of herself. Anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting Shirley would tell you in a heartbeat that she was the most kind, beautiful, selfless, hard-working, mild-mannered, & kind-hearted woman that you’d ever know. Although she always put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own and never expected anything extra in return, it showed you just a glimpse of what a wonderful human being she was. Shirley gave us all countless moments of great joy & was the glue that kept our family together through all the good times, the bad, and whenever you just needed someone to talk to, she’d always be the first one to help. She was the single most loving person we’ve ever known and our lives will be forever changed without her.
So gramma, May you always Rest In Peace, we love you so dearly & miss you beyond what words can express already.
