Adams Lake wildfire grows to 6,500 hectares

The Lower East Adams Lake wildfire is now estimated at 6,505 hectares.

The B.C. Wildfire Service updated the size of the wildfire north of Chase Wednesday, August 9.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) stated the amount of smoke from the fire had created issues with accurately mapping the size of the blaze, noting the last estimated size recorded earlier in the week was 4,823 hectares.

The fire was still listed as “out of control” Wednesday and evacuation orders and alerts remained in place.

The CSRD stated the rain Wednesday was minimal, with only one to two millimetres falling in the area.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) had 41 wildland firefighters, 33 structure protection resources and 15 pieces of heavy equipment responding to the Lower East Adams Lake Wildfire at last update Wednesday.

The BCWS also had an incident management team and 12 helicopters assigned to the Adams Complex, which includes the Lower East Adams Lake, Rossmoore Lake and Bush Creek East wildfires. The wildfire service noted helicopters were being assigned operational objectives within the area as needed.

The CSRD added B.C. Hydro was able to restore power to the evacuated area at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday.
