Wildfire south of Kamloops grows to 1,800 hectares

What started as a small wildfire in Ross Moore Lake has since increased significantly.

As of 9:04 a.m. on Sunday (July 23), the B.C. Wildfire Service reported the wildfire at 1,800 hectares. The fire is located 24 kilometers south of Kamloops.

Melanie Bibeau of the Kamloops Fire Centre says an initial attack crew and a response officer were sent out Sunday morning to fight the raging fire.

The wildfire was reported at 90 hectares on Friday evening (July 21) and has since expanded dramatically in size.

Bibeau also states heavy equipment is on site of the fire and task force are working on the southeast corner of the fire.

The Thompson Nicola Regional District has ordered 49 properties just south of Kamloops evacuated due to the threat presented by the Ross Moore Lake fire.

The TNRD’s order was issued at 6:00 p.m. Saturday (July 22).

The fire was first discovered near Lac Le Jeune Friday afternoon.
