January 17th, 1957 – May 9th, 2023
Margaret Harrison passed away peacefully in Vernon BC at the age of 66 after a long and courageous battle with Cancer.
Margaret was born and raised in Armstong, BC and lived her entire life in the Okanagan Valley. She was a kind, generous soul who was always willing to pitch in where needed, be it donating to her favourite charities, fund raising or supporting her kids as a sports mom. She was a tough nut with a can do let’s get ‘er dun attitude.
Margaret always had a smile for the people in her life and had a deep love for her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She had a love of animals, gardening as well as cooking for friends and family at gatherings.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved father Hughie Jong and her mother Louie Non Chip Jong.
Margaret is survived by the love of her life, Al Harrison, her son Curtis Bensmiller (Lisa), daughter June (Derek Melton), daughter Toni (Matt Nicholls), stepson Mike Harrison (Kristina), stepson Tyler Harrison and 10 grandchildren, Trace, Mitchell, Gillian, Austin, Brandon, Grayson, Cameron, Rylie, Oliver and Jakov.
Margaret is also survived by her brother Allan Jong (Penn), sisters Mary Jong, Joan (Kalvin Krause), Jeannie Jong and brother Danny Jong (Jenny) as well as many nieces and nephews from the Bensmiller, Chung, Jong and Harrison families.
Al and family would like to personally thank the Bensmiller and Jong families for their generosity, love and support during this difficult time.
Margaret, Al and family wish to thank Dr. Michael Humphreys, Dr. Edward Hardy, Dr. Alison Rankin, the staff at the McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Centre and Vernon Jubilee Hospital for the excellent care she received during her visits.
A special thank you to Dr. Louise Van Zyl for her years of compassion and dedicated medical care.
Margaret, Al and family wish to express our love to the staff for the excellent care provided to Margaret during her stay at the North Okanagan Hospice House.
Following Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be at 11:00 am on June 3rd, 2023 at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with placing of the cremation remains to take place on a future date. Margaret’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the extended family and friends for their love and support during this heartbreaking time.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, those wishing to do so, may leave a memorial donation in Margaret’s memory to: Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, the McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Centre, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, BCSPCA, Ronald McDonald House or the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
