Lakeview Pool still on track to open next summer

The project to revitalize the Lakeview Wading “Peanut” Pool in Vernon is progressing as scheduled.

A report to Vernon City Council said some complications did arise, as there is clay soil in that area of the East Hill neighbourhood.

However, geotechnical improvements were completed and over 2,700 m3 of expansive clay soil was removed from the site on 18th Street.

The area has been backfilled and concrete has been poured for the pool footings, surge tank and building footings.

Crews have also completed utility service upgrades for the site.

Work is ongoing in constructing forms for the pool walls, with that process expected to be ready for concrete in December.

It was noted that the opening requires the installment of all key mechanical system components, adding though supply chains are improving, there are still some production backlogs impacting the delivery dates.

Despite this, the report states administration is “optimistic” the Lakeview Wading Pool will be ready to open in late June 2023, as previously targeted.

The report will be presented to council at the regular meeting Monday, Nov. 28, where it is expected to be accepted for information.

The project is estimated to cost $3.3 million, with $1.8 million supplied by senior government grants.
