Fruit falls on highway after crash

Apples were scattered on the highway south of Vernon after an incident this morning.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to a two-vehicle crash in Highway 97’s southbound lanes near Birnie Road (landfill turnoff) at around 10:25 a.m. Sept. 29.

“One of the vehicles was hauling apple crates that were full of fruit, causing apples to be spread across the highway,” Christy Poirier, city communications and grants manager, said.

Part of highway was closed for about 15 minutes and then one southbound lane was reopened to traffic.
