January 1935 – September 2022
…Cause her to dwell in a blissful abode, heal her griefs with the balm of Thy reunion, and, in accordance with Thy will, grant her admission to Thy holy Paradise.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá ‘
The family of Afsar Asasi announce her passing on September 6, 2022 at VJH in Vernon, B.C. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children Fariba (Habib), Farid, Ziba (Fareed), and her grandchildren Camelia, Alysia (Tyrone), Jessica (Mielaad), Marina, Sasha, Justin, Sabrina, Nishan and many extended family members. Afsar is now reunited with her beloved husband, Zabih, who passed away less than a year ago.
As members of the Baha’I faith, Afsar and Zabih experienced religious persecution in their home-country of Iran. In 1984, they escaped to Pakistan with their family. They sought refuge in Canada in November 1985 and Calgary, Alberta became their new home. Although Afsar did not speak much English, she was able to supplement the family income by caring for the children of family and friends. Afsar and Zabih decided to spend their retirement years in the Okanagan. They moved to Peachland in 2002 and to Vernon in 2008 to be closer to their youngest daughter, Ziba, and her family.
Afsar loved to garden and she spent many summers in the yard. She loved animals and cared for many family pets throughout her life including birds, cats, and rabbits! Family meant everything to her and she loved to have her children and grandchildren close to her.
The family would like to thank the Trauma team at the VJH and provide a special thanks to Dr. Barnard for taking care of both Afsar and Zabih for so many years. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 16 at 10:30 A.M. at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in Afsar’s memory.
We miss you and your hugs and kisses “Maman”, “Mama Bozorg”, “Bozorg”. Your smile, joyfulness, and immense love for your family will never be forgotten! Until we meet again!
