Algae bloom in Shuswap Lake
Aug 16, 2022 | 3:46 PM
An algae bloom is occurring in the Salmon Arm portion of Shuswap Lake.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), along with the First Nations Health Authority, City of Salmon Arm, and Interior Health are all monitoring the bloom, which is located from Steamboat Island to Tappen Bay and the Salmon Arm Wharf.
CSRD and Interior Health advises all residents and visitors in the affected areas:
- Avoid all direct contact with the bloom and to rinse off with clean water if having come in contact;
- Avoid recreational activities, such as swimming, in the affected areas;
- Do not consume drinking water directly from the lake, consume water from alternate and safe sources, and contact the water supplier to see if tap water is coming from the lake;
- Provide pets and livestock with alternate sources of drinking water.
