Vernon business gets top marks for oil recycling

Apr 4, 2022 | 8:30 AM

A Vernon business has been recognized for outstanding efforts to collect used oil and antifreeze materials.

Interior Freight and Bottle Depot was among those singled-out by the BC Used Oil Management Association (BCUOMA), a not-for-profit group focused on the collection and recycling of used lubricating oil, oil filters, oil containers, used antifreeze and antifreeze containers in British Columbia.

The group has released its third annual Top Collector Awards, recognizing 30 B.C. public recycling centres based on several criteria.

  • The total amount of used oil, oil filters, oil containers, antifreeze and antifreeze containers collected at the public recycling location.
  • The total number of years participating in BCUOMA’s public recycling program.
  • A demonstration of continued support of BCUOMA and other recycling stewardship related programs.

David Lawes, CEO of BC Used Oil Management Association, said Interior Freight has done a great job providing services to residents for several decades.

“For the past 30 years this award winning business has expanded the range of materials accepted for recycling and in 2015 they partnered with BCUOMA to offer collection of BCUOMA program materials. Our goal is to work with partners that can deliver the service consumers expect.”

Lawes added they have invested in organizations that are better equipped to deal with the messy business of handling used oil, providing them with infrastructure and staff training to ensure products are managed safely.
