Vipers and Warriors to meet in first playoff round

Mar 20, 2022 | 8:00 PM

The Vernon Vipers now know who they will meet in the first round of the BCHL playoffs, and they hope their game Sunday won’t be a preview of that.

The West Kelowna Warriors dropped the Vipers 6-1 at Royal Lepage Place before 1,114 fans, getting three assists from first star Brennan Nelson and second star Nicolas Ardanaz.

West Kelowna has won eight straight games.

Luke Lavery was the only Viper to beat Victoria native Johnny Derrick in the Warriors net.

The outcome clinched third spot for the Warriors and sixth place for the Vipers, meaning the Okanagan rivals will meet in the first round starting April 1.

The Vipers will close out the regular season Wednesday at home to the Trail Smoke Eaters.
