Vernon Comic Con features comics, cards and collectables

A popular Vernon event is making its return this spring, and it promises to be the biggest one yet.

Vernon Comic Con got its start in 2018 and 2019 before a two-year shutdown due to the pandemic.

The family-friendly comic book convention will be held at the Vernon Lodge on May 7, which is a larger venue. It was last held at the Riviera Plaza and Conference Centre (formerly Village Green Hotel) in 2019.

“Vernon Comic Con is much, much more than comics,” said producer Peter Kaz. “Come join the fun, meet some wonderful collectors, artists, play games, search through a plethora of long boxes for that special comic, find unique collectables, buy/sell/trade cards, view stunning props, costumes, cards, video and board games, take in photo ops, find vintage items and much more.”

The cost to get in to Vernon Comic Con is only $1 per person, with children under five years old free, or you can make a larger donation with proceeds going to North Okanagan Youth and Family Services.

Kaz said for those that have never been to a collectible show, the seven-hour event will have something for everyone. He describes it as a pop culture convention.

“Part Disneyland, part collectable pickers show, part Halloween and part artist/designer forum. From private collectors and artists to retail outlets bringing out their special items that are hardly seen with many deals. It’s created for the entire family.”

Kaz added many attendees get into the spirit and dress up as their favourite characters.

“We had entire families becoming superheroes! You have time to start designing your Black Panther, Darth Vader, Harley Quinn, Kitana, Pokemon, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Okami Amaterasu or Trekkie costumes now,” Kaz remarked.
