Record price set

Russia-Ukraine war to impact our gas prices, says analyst

While we may think our gas prices are high in the Okanagan, the price at the pumps in Vancouver has hit a record-breaking $1.82 per litre, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

The watchdog group said that makes it the most expensive gasoline in North America.

“At these record-breaking pump prices, it now costs about $135 to fill-up a family minivan and about $200 to fill up a light duty pickup truck,” said Kris Sims, B.C. director of the CTF. “If a family in Langley – a suburb of Vancouver – fills up their minivan once a week and their pickup truck twice a month, these pump prices will cost them more than $11,000 per year.”

Sims said 72 cents of the price in Vancouver is taxes, including both carbon taxes.

Vernon’s gas prices are still averaging $1.50.9 a litre, with Kelowna at $1.54.9.

Roger McKnight with En-Pro International expects prices to rise across the country by five cents per litre on Saturday, due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine putting more pressure on oil prices.
