B.C. reports 2,103 new COVID-19 cases, 44 deaths over long-weekend

British Columbia lost 44 people to COVID-19 over the long weekend.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) data showed that seven of the deaths between Feb. 18 and 22 were recorded in the Interior. To date, 2,830 British Columbians have died due to COVID-19, 348 of whom were from the Interior.

Also over the long-weekend, 2,103 new cases were confirmed across the province:

Feb 18–19: 631
Feb 19–20: 571
Feb 20–21: 424
Feb 21–22: 477

Of those cases, 610 were identified within Interior Health’s jurisdiction. To date, there have been 58,914 cases confirmed in the Interior, and 345,734 cases in the province.

The number of British Columbians hospitalized with COVID-19 was recorded at 688 Tuesday, down by 45 from Friday’s figure. The number of patients in intensive care with the virus fell by five since Friday to 108 Tuesday.

B.C.’s first dose COVID-19 vaccination rates for all residents aged five and over was recorded at 90.5 per cent Tuesday, while the second dose rate was 85.9 per cent.

Additionally, 93.2 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over and 93.5 per cent of adult in B.C. have received their first doses of a vaccine. The second dose rates for those groups were recorded at 90.6 per cent and 91.1 per cent, while the third dose figures were 54.9 per cent and 57 per cent.

Four new health-care facility outbreaks were announced Tuesday, all of which were in Interior Health’s jurisdiction. Those were offset by six outbreaks being declared over, four of which were in the Interior, including Noric House in Vernon.
