Smokies squeak out win over Snakes in Smelter city

Dec 11, 2021 | 8:30 AM

The bus ride home from Trail was a little longer for the Vernon Vipers after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Smoke Eaters on Friday night.

Matt Culling scored both goals for Vernon while Luke Pakulak had two assists.

The Vipers outshot the Smokies 15-7 in the third period but neither team was able to take the lead, even through overtime.

Trail scored twice in the shootout for their 12th win of the season, much to the delight of the 1,200 fans in attendance at the Cominco Arena.

The Vipers (6-10-3-3) are back on the ice tonight at 6:00 p.m. when they host the West Kelowna Warriors at Kal Tire Place, with the pre game show on Beach Radio/Vernon Matters at 5:45 p.m. with Graham Turnbull.

In the KIJHL, the North Okanagan Knights lost 2-1 to the Kelowna Chiefs at the Nor-Val Centre in Armstrong Friday. The Knights host the Summerland Steam at 7:45 p.m. tonight.
