Vernon/Coldstream made slight gains last week in it’s COVID-19 vaccination rates.

As of Monday, Nov. 29, the first dose figures for area residents aged 12 and over stayed flat from the week before at 86 per cent, but the second dose rate rose by one point from the week prior to 83 per cent.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control has not updated it’s system to show vaccination rates for children aged 5 to 11 yet, but the other age groups were still broken down.

Locally, 81 per cent of 12-17 year olds, 80 per cent of Vernon/Coldstream residents aged 18-49, and 91 per cent of residents aged 50 and over have received their first jabs. The second dose rates for those groups as of Monday were 76, 76 and 89 per cent, respectively.

The data from the BCCDC notes that Enderby continued to have the Interior’s lowest first-dose vaccination rates for 12-17 year olds at 45 per cent and for the 18-49 year old demographic at 63 per cent. Kettle Valley had the lowest vaccination rate for those aged 50 and older at 77 per cent.

That figure takes into account vaccinations for 5 to 11 year olds, though as of Monday no shots had been administered to that group yet.

Excluding the children, the Interior’s vaccination rates for people aged 12 and over were 86 per cent for first doses and 82 per cent for two jabs.

The BCCDC’s figures also showed that 10 per cent of all eligible Interior residents had received a third booster dose. It’s noted that 43 per cent of residents aged 70 and over have received a booster; as have six per cent of people aged 60-69; five per cent of residents aged 50-59; four per cent of Interior residents aged 40-49; three per cent of people aged 30-39; and two per cent of 20-29 year olds.
