Okanagan Indian Band lifts part of evacuation order; RDNO keeps its order on

Good news for residents of the Okanagan Indian Band reserve.

An Evacuation Order covering the areas north of Louis Estates has been partially rescinded up to Irish Creek Road.

An Evacuation Alert remains in effect for all addresses listed in Schedule 1 (see below).

The band said an Evacuation Order may need to be reissued but if that is deemed necessary, the Evacuation Order process will re-commence.

The Evacuation Order for a portion of RDNO Electoral Area B above Westside Road REMAINS IN PLACE and unchanged since it was issued on August 15. This Order is based on the recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service due to the White Rock Lake Wildfire.

Some of the other local authorities that are affected by this wildfire have issued changes to their Evacuation Alerts and Orders this afternoon, so the RDNO is clarifying that our Order remains in effect.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WHEN ON ALERT:

• Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure.

• Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/or neighbors, if assistance is needed.

• Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).

• Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles. Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.

• Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating. Monitor website and Facebook page for information on evacuation orders and location of Reception Centres.

• If your animals or livestock have been relocated, call 250-809-9589 to coordinate their safe return
