Safety improvements sought for Hurlburt Beach
Following a near miss between a boater and a young swimmer, the City of Vernon is following through on an application the Ministry of Transport to mark the swimming area at Hurlburt Beach on Eastside Road.
Mayor Victor Cumming first raised the issue in September 2020, with staff reporting that a rope-lined swim buoy system would be the most effective protection for swimmers.
The city has applied under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act for approval of the work.
