Vernon council debates legacy fund projects

Vernon council is holding a special meeting Tuesday, April 20, to try decide how to spend a $13 million dollar gift from Fortis BC.
The utility company provided the legacy funds to the city several years ago, with no limitation on what the money could be spent on.
During this year’s budget debate, it was decided not to use the funds to lower the tax rate.
A new fire truck was previously purchased with some of the funds, but council decided they would honour the ‘legacy’ tag on the rest of the gift, and put funds toward a substantial project.
