A major subdivision development in Lumby dubbed Copper Mountain could eventually see upwards of 220 new single and multi-family homes on 38 acres on the west side of the village.

The developers, Joe and Gord Prebushewski, are working on phase one of the development, a 22 single family lot subdivision accessed from Catt Avenue, Glencaird Street and Leblanc Street.

“There has been significant interest already, and the views are unbelievable,” Gord Prebushewski said.

Significant earthworks began in May 2020 and the lots should be ready for home builders by June or July, depending on the progress of the work.

Site preparation will include removal of thousand of tonnes of material, placement of engineered retaining walls, along with sewer, water and hydro installation.

The construction should more than meet the goals set out in the North Okanagan Regional District’s Regional Housing Assessment.

Lumby’s population is estimated at about 2,000 people, and it’s still one the more affordable communities in the North Okanagan for families to purchase a home.

That report suggested the need would be for a total of 96 new homes by 2026, and another 108 households between 2026-36. The Canadian Home Builders Association calls the assessment very conservative.
