Group gets funding for LGBTQ2 project

Feb 11, 2021 | 2:25 PM

The Trudeau government has followed up on a promise in the 2019 budget and is investing $15-million into 76 LGBTQ projects across the country.

They include groups working with LGBTQ refugees, Indigenous youth and transgender Canadians.

The government established the LGBTQ2 community capacity fund to help groups who said they needed assistance running their organizations and building networks to support their work.

Six groups groups in B.C. will get funding including Essies Place, a society for people with diverse genders and sexualities based in Sicamous, which will receive a $100,000 grant.

“This project will strengthen the capacity and networks of Essies Place to advance LGBTQ2 equality by increasing evidence and knowledge of LGBTQ2 challenges and barriers; partnership development, collaboration, networking; supporting the ability to create opportunities for members of LGBTQ2 communities to gather, connect, network, share knowledge, and exist safely in a collaborative space,” a news release stated.
