B.C. COVID update Friday: 508 new cases, 79 in Interior

New COVID-19 cases in B.C. are remaining relatively steady.

The province reported 508 new cases today, after 564 on Thursday, 500 on Wednesday and 465 on Tuesday.

Interior Health had 79 of the new cases, down from the 95 on Thursday and 91 on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, there were 132 new cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 228 in Fraser Health, 13 in Island Health, 55 in Northern Health and one new case of a person who resides outside of Canada.

There have been nine new COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,128 deaths in B.C.

There are 4,479 active cases in the province, with 315 people in hospital, 74 in critical or intensive care.

Currently, 6,719 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and 56,455 people who tested positive are considered recovered.

There are two new health-care facility outbreaks at Royal Inland Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital. The outbreak at Queen’s Park Care Centre is now over.

There has also been one new outbreak at the North Fraser Pretrial Services Centre.

To date, 110,566 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 2,202 of which are second doses. Immunization data is available on the COVID-19 dashboard at: www.bccdc.ca

B.C.’s province wide COVID-19 Immunization Plan was announced earlier on Friday. It outlines the age-based approach for immunization and population protection, aimed at ensuring those who are highest risk of severe illness and death receive the vaccine first.
