Family of murdered Okanagan man appeal for information and offer reward

It’s been eleven years since Joseph Pek was killed at a Kelowna home and his family is offering a reward, and appealing to anyone with information about his death to come forward and speak to police.

On October 20, 2009, just before 1:00 a.m., Kelowna RCMP received a 911 call to a residence in the 400-block of Birch Ave. Upon arrival, investigators located the 38-year-old Pek dead near the side of the house.

Pek’s death was determined to be a homicide, with his sister saying he was stabbed, and the investigation remains open.

“The Kelowna RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to follow up on all tips and leads in this investigation,” said Inspector Kent Lowe. “We believe there are people who know what happened to Mr. Pek who haven’t spoken to us. His family deserves answers, and we are asking you to come forward now.”

In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, the cause of death, and more specific details are not being released at this time.

The family is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information that will lead to an arrest and conviction in the case.

“Joe had a history with drugs and crime. However, Joe also had a story and was move than his reputation. He was loved by his devoted mother and two sisters. His heart was as big as he was and he always put everyone’s needs ahead of his own,” said his sister Paulina in a video.
