February 16, 1929 – December 13, 2020
Mrs. Nellie Drabiuk passed away peacefully in Vernon, BC at the age of 91 years.
She was predeceased by her baby daughter Adeline in June of 1957. She was predeceased by her husband Steve of 53 years in September of 2006. Both Steve and Nellie were born and raised in Saskatchewan. After they were wed in August of 1951, they packed up their bags and moved to Vernon, BC.
Nellie is survived by her three daughters; Marlene Vander Griendt of Calgary, AB, Debbie (Dwain) Hopp of Harrison Mills, BC, and Carol Redstone of Toronto, ON.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Daniel, Timothy and Sarah Vander Griendt, Carlie (Cam) Robb, Lyndi Hopp and Anna Redstone, as well as two great grandchildren Callum and Cayden Robb. Nellie is also survived by her sister Elverie (Everett) Worth of Yarrow, BC.
Nellie was a woman of faith and a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the CWL for over 60 years as well. She always enjoyed volunteering and making a difference in the church community. She also loved living on the farm, cooking, canning, sewing and entertaining family and friends in her big kitchen. There were always leftovers no matter how many guests would show up for a “snack”, as mom would call it. Mom also enjoyed a good game of cribbage; she was a hard one to beat!
We will miss her deep love, kind spirit and quick wit. She will be sadly missed but we will cherish the memories we have of her. We would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, care staff and volunteers from the Heron Grove for their genuine care, kindness and professionalism. We would also like to thank all the friends and family that stopped by the Heron to visit mom on a regular basis. All of you made a big difference in our mom’s life. Thank you once again.
We love you mom with all our hearts!
A private funeral will be scheduled for the immediate family only, due to Covid-19 pandemic.
