Regulations confusing

Organizations struggling to work with COVID-19 rules

Two local organizations are doing their best to keep operating in light of the COVID-19 public safety rules.

“Vernon Winter Carnival wants to hold separated events at Kin Park, and need a letter of support,” Coun. Kari Gares said. “They are planning to have areas sectioned off with no more than 50 people in each area with proper social distancing,”

The difficulty is the provincial health rules may still classify it as one large gathering and not permit the events to proceed.

Vernon council has asked for a more detailed plan prior to a decision on support.

The Vernon Farmers Market indoor winter markets are also in question.

“We are working with the farmers market and Interior Health to try accomodate this on the concourse at Kal Tire Place,” Doug Ross, recreation services dictor said.

“These public health orders are confusing as hell,” Coun. Scott Anderson said. “Maybe this is a discussion to have with the province, but you go into some of these big stores like Walmart and there are people everywhere.”

The organization hopes to have a plan in place in time for opening the market on November 27th.
