January 19, 1927-October 4, 2020
With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our Dad, (Uncle, Grand Father, Great Grandfather and Friend), on Sunday October 4, 2020 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
At almost 94 years of age, Dad had a life well lived with Family, lots of Golf, and a wonderful career in Sales.
Predeceased by his Wife (Mona), 5 older Sisters and daughter in-law (Lanette), Dad leaves behind his children, Bev (Dennis) Donnelly, John Dede, Barbara Hill and Kelly Marshall, as well as Mona’s children, Denny and Larry Raincock. Also missing their ‘Gramps’ are his Grandchildren Jessica (Jay), Kaela, Michael (Sheona), Brook, Shelby, Nayo, Sarah, Lindsay, Kate and his Great Grandchildren Brody, Liam and Peyton. Dad also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in BC and Oregon, and many friends through the Okanagan Valley, from Vernon to Osoyoos.
Dad was born and raised in Vancouver but spent the past 60 years in the Okanagan Valley. Dad’s successful sales career took him from Edwards Coffee in San Francisco, to the Alcan mine in Kitimat then onto Vernon Machine and Consolidated Equipment. Many of Dad’s customers became life-long friends. He was always sharing or helping others, however he could. Dad and Mona spent 40 years in Oliver where they enjoyed the climate and year-round golf. In his retirement Dad was passionate about working with wood, gardening, playing crib and found great joy in making things a little bit better than the way he found them. His all-time favourite, bringing others the Golf course to squeeze in a quick round or a bucket of balls under the guise of teaching. Dad always made time for a game of ‘something’, so he could share his corny wit and funny stories.
Dad spent the last few years residing at Coldstream Meadows where he made some great friends. Many Thanks to the ‘gals’ who took such great care of him.
Thank you to Dr. S. Friesen for his terrific support. Dad had 9 lives and kept the Good Dr. busy! Thank you to the amazing Hospital Staff during Dad’s final days who went above and beyond, for which we are grateful. Dad also leaves special friends ‘Brother Hugh and Uncle Dave’ and promises to watch over them.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favourite charity, or to Canadian Blood Services.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the Coldstream, (at a later date, due to Covid) and a round of Golf in Oliver next spring.
See you on the 19th hole Gramps…
