Staff recommend taking down temporary 4-way stop on 43rd Avenue

A temporary four-way stop on 43rd Avenue and 20th Street may not stay in place once construction on Pleasant Valley Road is completed later this month.

PV Road has been closed for several weeks in two locations, to install a roundabout and make improvements where the road meets Silver Star Road.

The idea of keeping it in place was floated at last council meeting by Councillor Akbal Mund who indicated he was getting positive feedback from residents in the area about the 4-way stop.

A staff report to council this Tuesday indicates that the reopening of Pleasant Valley Road is anticipated to lead to a reduction of traffic on 20th Street and the result will be that the warrant for a four-way stop will no longer be met.

At this time, the plan is return it to two-way stop control as retaining an unwarranted four- way stop is an undesirable precedent and a known safety hazard, according to the staff report.
