Les Reeder of Vernon, BC passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Les is survived by sisters Frances (Don) and Judy and by brother Ron (Diane).
Les was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan but moved to New Westminster, BC at an early age. As an adult he lived near Langley, BC for a time and finally settled in Vernon. Although facing mental challenges Les was fiercely independent.
Les made enduring friendships with numerous people. He had many interests throughout his lifetime. When he was a young man, he worked on a farm caring for horses, which he saved from a catastrophic fire in the 1970s. After Les moved to Vernon, he became involved in Special Olympics as a member of the floor hockey, swimming and bowling teams, participating in the 1987 Special Olympics in Richmond, BC.
Les was well-known around Vernon. His kind, engaging ways endeared him to many shopkeepers and restaurant owners. He volunteered as a helper at Tim Horton’s and the Schubert Centre for a number of years. His career included working at Venture Training in the wood shop and at the Vernon Golf & Country Club for 20 years.
The family expresses their gratitude to his many caregivers over the years. Special thanks to the staff at Vernon and District Association for Community Living (VDACL) for their expert care over many years and to the Vernon Hospice (NOHS) for their care of Les over the past 4 months where he lived out his final days.
Leslie’s remains will be interred beside his mother’s at the Queen’s Park Cemetery in Calgary at a private service.
