Silver Star announces plan for winter season

Sep 17, 2020 | 3:05 PM

Silver Star Mountain Resort has announced its plan for the winter season, and incorporating Covid safety measures.

General manager Ken Derpak said the plan is to open the ski season Dec. 4 and Nordic on November 28.

“We’re confident that starting our season later than we have historically opened, with more acreage and lifts open, will help guests spread out and maintain appropriate distance while also providing a higher quality on-snow experience from day one of the season,” said Derpak. “We anticipate being open for season passholders only on opening day and for a period of time as we assess operations and capacity limits. Information about when day ticket holders can access the mountain will be announced at a later date.”

Social distancing measures will be incorporated into parking, on-mountain dining, the snowsport school on the lifts.

Derpak said physical distancing in lift queues occurs organically due to the length of skis and snowboards and guests will notice additional spacing measures, including extended maze designs, more lateral spacing and increased signage, to further ensure a consistent flow of appropriately spaced traffic.

“Guests will self-group and load chairlifts with their traveling party. Lift attendants will not require guests to ride a chairlift with people they do not know. High-capacity chairlifts and closed cabin carriers may be the exception, and may be loaded in a way that allows for physical distancing,” said Derpak.
