Air quality improves but smoke still hanging around

Environment Canada says air quality has improved considerably across southern B.C. overnight, but regions impacted by wildfire smoke are likely to be impacted over the next 24 to 48 hours.

In the latest smoky skies bulletin, it was noted fine particulate matter levels remain elevated.

The air quality health index as of 9 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 17) was at 5 for the North Okanagan and 6 for the Central Okanagan, both in the moderate range.

Environment Canada said winds from the south are expected to transport smoke north over the next 24-48 hours.
