Rose Marie Scheepbouwer

On August 1st, 2020 after a very brief illness, the lord called home one of his dearest angels known as Rose Marie Scheepbouwer and known to so many as Grandma Rose.
Grandma Rose was one of four children born to Theresa and Arlie Park in Kansas City Mis-souri on June 23rd, 1931. She was just a little girl when her family moved to the Cariboo in Canada and tried their hand at ranching. It is there where she met an older, rather dashing cowboy, by the name of William Scheepbouwer. He would become her husband exactly one day after her 19th birth-day on June 24th, 1950. They were blessed with four beautiful children although one earned her an-gel wings far too soon and went to be with the lord a few days after her birth. They went on to raise William ‘Bill’, Linda, and Gordon who in turn went on to raise families of their own. Rose was blessed with ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and her first great great grandchild is due to be born at the end of December 2020.
She was involved in her community in various ways such as serving as a long-time member of the Women’s Institute including two runs as president. Her volunteer work was extensive, one of her many acts of kindness included making crocheted baby blankets and hats for the newborn babies at her local hospital in Vernon. She was always up for a game of cribbage and was a part of several groups for different card games with friends. She was well loved by anyone and everyone who knew her, and she would do anything she could to help a friend. She was unbiased and she didn’t judge people. She had such a kind and gentle spirit and was so full of compassion that just embodied you like a quilt on a cold winter’s night. There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains. This is our Grandma Rose – The matriarch of our family.
Many of us share childhood memories of visiting grandma and grandpa on their farm with the green barn in Salmon Arm. She was an amazing cook and she had a passion for baking. Her butter tarts were mouth watering and her tender crisp cookies will always be a family favorite. I will always remember the cinnamon toast and home-made canned cherries for breakfast in Falkland. I will never pass by another fruit stand or breath in the beautiful scent of horses again without thinking of her.
She is such a large part of who many of us are and who we can only hope to become. We could always count on her to lend an ear if ever we needed her guidance or just someone to listen. She was always there with her unconditional love and wisdom. She was an extraordinary woman and she will be missed dearly but we know she is still there, and if we listen carefully, we can always here her whisper softly to us. When we lose someone we love we must learn not to live with-out them but to live with the love they left behind. Grandma Rose used to always say “When it’s too tough for everyone else it’s just right for us”. To our whole family, she was like our own Mother Theresa. She has blessed so many in so many ways and we will forever be thankful for every moment that God let her spend with us. May you rest easy in the arms of the angels our dear beloved Grandma Rose, until we meet again, we are only a heartbeat away.
