John Golanowski passed away peacefully in the Gateby Care Home in Vernon on July 18, 2020 after a brief 4 month stay.
He was born in Rembrandt, Manitoba on June 15, 1933 and was the second eldest of 7 children, two of which died at birth. His sister Myrtle and brothers Eddie and Bert predeceased John, and he is survived by youngest brother Walter. John followed his brothers to BC around 1960, where a few years later he later met and married his wife Doreen and they raised two sons – Joseph (Pamela) and Allan (Tanya). In later years when Doreen became disabled with advanced MS, he became a loyal caregiver for her as best as he could. She predeceased him in 2005.
John was a shy, quiet and generous man. He loved the simple things in life – fishing at Fountain lake, watching Blue Jays baseball, playing crib, and listening to old time country music. One of his greatest adventures with his sons was looking for a lost gold mine, which provided him with a lot of excitement, some dashed hopes, but many hours of storytelling. One day in Paradise, dad, we’re sure you’ll find it.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, John had strong faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection, and we his family, look forward to seeing him again in a Paradise earth soon to come.
There will be no service. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at Gateby, as well as Dr Stanley and Dr Jolly for their excellent care these past months and years.
