1921 – 2020
We are sad to announce that our beloved Fred passed away one month short of his 99th birthday in Vernon on April 26, 2020. Fred was known by many as a joyful, active, caring man who loved his family and his country deeply. He was born in Saskatchewan in 1921, raised in the Great Depression and served overseas in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the aircraft industry as a Manager of Technical Writing. He was well respected for living his values in everything he did: always do your best, love each other and never give up. Fred enjoyed golfing, curling, bowling, travelling, going to the casino, being with family …and winning at cards. He considered Vernon to be paradise on Earth and was delighted to move there with his beloved wife, Christina, in 1986. Sadly, Christina passed away in 2005.
Fred was amazed to find great love a second time when he met Norma Williams. They were married when he was 90 and she was 87.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, John and Beatrice; all five of his siblings; and his son Freddie who passed in 2008. Fred will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma Williams; daughters Darlene (Allan) Davies of Calgary and Lenore Dafoe of Edmonton; six grandchildren; Lynne Davies, Laurie (Graham) Warner, Jeff (Paula Doran) Davies, Christopher (Lynn) Dafoe, Jessica Dafoe and David Gordon; twelve great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
The family wishes to thank the Vernon General Hospital for their compassionate care and to the Vernon Funeral Home for their support during this difficult time.
Because of the pandemic, there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Fred Dafoe’s Life will be planned for family and friends in the future when it is possible to meet again.
Arrangements entrusted with Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon, BC. 250-542-0155.
