Irene Newell, born August 4, 1926 passed away quietly at the age of 93 on the morning of January 29, 2020. Predeceased by her husband Cecil (Bill) Newell and son Kenneth Newell, Irene will be lovingly remembered by her son John Newell and grandchildren Lisa Newell and Conrad Newell as well as her large extended family and community at the Vernon Restholm.
Irene, the last remaining sibling of the Palfrey family; was the middle child of 7 (4 girls and 3 boys) growing up on a dairy farm and Orchard in Coldstream with her parents Bertram Palfrey and Gertrude Illman.
After meeting the love of her life Bill at a Summer Festival in Vernon; they were married in 1950 and had 2 boys (John and Kenneth). Creating a life of love and adventure, Irene and Bill built and managed a chicken farm before taking a job and travelling the world working for the Canadian Embassy where they were stationed in places like Mexico, Cuba and Poland. Moving back to the Okanangan after they retired, Irene spent many years volunteering at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, travelling the world and spending time with her family.
Her grace, smile and strength will be missed by all who knew her. Please join her family and friends at the All Saints Church in Vernon at 2:00pm on Friday, February 7, 2020 for a memorial to celebrate her life with a tea to follow.
