James (Jim) A. Rogers
Jim died 14 January 2020 in Vernon B.C. after a short battle with cancer.
Born 13 Oct 1937 to Maurice and Mildred Rogers in Edmonton, AB, Jim spent his early years as a shoe salesman and shoe store owner along with his father. Bitten by the horse racing bug, Jim sold everything and went into Harness Racing full time. Starting out as an owner and groom, he got his Trainer’s license and started his own stable. In 1985 he was hired by Cloverdale Raceway (now Fraser Downs) as a Judge representing the track. This position was taken over by the BC government in 1993 and in 1995 he was moved to Hastings Park in Vancouver as a Race Stewart. In 2001 he retired from Hastings Park and moved to the BC interior where he continued to act as Race Stewart at the four interior tracks right up until closing.
Jim is survived by his loving wife and co-conspirator of 40 years Denise, son Daryl and his wife Shawna, brother Garry and his wife Maxine, along with 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents (obviously) and one grandchild.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, no funeral will take place. Jim has been cremated and his ashes will be placed in the family plot next to Maurice and Mildred later this summer.
