It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt Mary Kogler at age 84 years, on October 18, 2019. She is survived by her children Carla (Bob), Kerry (Sue), grandchildren Aleece (Jamie), Katelyn (Ian), Cole and Jace as well as great granddaughter Blake. She was predeceased by her husband John of 46 years, father Anton, mother Maria, brother Peter (Nettie) and sisters Annie (Joe), Polly (Dan) and sister-in law Esther (Alf). Mary will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whose lives she touched.
Born in Hazel Dell, Saskatchewan on July, 25, 1935 Mary moved to Grindrod, with her mother and father to join her siblings in 1943. Mary met Johnny and they were married in 1956 and settled in the Vernon area. She remained a resident of Coldstream for over 60 years. As a child, times were tough and due to that fact Mary persevered by being economically conscientious. Never one to be extravagant she gave with her heart and hands. Mary was a caring, loving, considerate woman who constantly put others before herself.
Mary worked hard as a homemaker and volunteer in the community. She belonged to many organizations including, Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary, IODE and the Catholic Women’s League. She loved sports, coached girls’ softball for several years, and bowled, but her yard and garden were her sanctuary. She spent countless hours planting, nurturing, trimming and harvesting the fruits of her labour. Mary enjoyed baking, sewing, crafting and occasional visits to the casino. She was also a great cook as many requests were made for her cabbage rolls, cookies and perogies.
A special thank you to Dianna, Don, Lil, Nadine and Dianne for your help and kindness to our mom.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Coldstream. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation.
Mom, you will be forever loved and dearly missed. You were a blessing to all. God bless you!
