Students need parent’s support to skip classes for rally

Sep 25, 2019 | 5:25 PM

Marches will be held around the world Friday called Climate Strike, demanding action on climate change.

A Vernon rally is being put on by Earth Strike Vernon, running from 12 to 3 p.m. outside the Vernon Courthouse.

Some students are planning to skip classes to take part in that event, which is fine, as long as they have written permission from their parents to do that, according to the Vernon School District.

“We know students may want to attend the upcoming Climate Justice Strike and admire their stance for a better tomorrow,” said Maritza Reilly, Communications Officer with SD 22.

“We would like to remind students that Friday remains a regular instructional day; however, students of School District 22 are free to exercise their democratic rights, but must have written permission from their parents or guardian to leave school,” said Reilly.
