Sep 23, 2019 | 5:35 AM

The North Okanagan Shuswap School District says all five of its secondary schools now have automatic external defibrillators.

The portable devices deliver an electric shock through the chest to the heart to treat sudden cardiovascular arrest.

Some of the AED’s have been donated by businesses or residents.

“Recently, Rosemary Foster and Andy Foster have each donated an AED to a school in memory of their grandson Jeremy Stoelting, who passed away suddenly last year. They have chosen to donate these to Carlin Elementary Middle and Shuswap Middle schools,” a news release from District 83 said.

North Shuswap Elementary also has an AED.

The devices have been installed in the schools and staff are being trained.

On another SD 83 issue, school start-up has gone well in the North Okanagan Shuswap District, according to administration.

Enrolment is up by 47 over budget projections at the elementary schools, and it looks like the secondary schools will be close to projections, with 49 fewer at this point.

Sorrento and Bastion Elementary schools have the most changes from thee projections, both up by 26 students.

At last report, about 6,385 students are in classes in the district.
