Carnival wants new faces

Time for a makeover for Jopo and Jopette

Sep 12, 2019 | 6:00 AM

Vernon Winter Carnival’s well-recognized mascots are due for a makeover.

Carnival staff are asking the community for ideas for new faces for Jopo and Jopette who have been around since 1965.

A contest runs from now until Nov. 8 with a cash prize for the winner.

“We’re looking to individuals to send in their ideas for a new costume design for Jopo and Jopette, something updated, but that will still be recognizable as the symbol of Carnival,¨ said Vicki Proulx, Carnival’s executive director.

She is asking people to send in designs for the new look mascots.

Proulx says the new costumes must still be Carnival blue and white, age and gender neutral and winter appropriate and “suitable for outdoor wear in February.”

The winning contestant will receive a cash prize of $500 and the design will be presented at Vernon Winter Carnival Business After 5 on Dec 10.

“We wanted to hold a contest for this task as it’s a way for the community to get involved and update a recognizable mascot that relates back to the community and the festival,” said Deb White, Chair of Vernon Winter Carnival Society.

Contest details can be found at the website
