Update: Grass fire south of Vernon ‘being held’

Update 5 p.m.

A quick response helped contain a grass fire south of Vernon along Highway 97.

The blaze broke out near Bailey Road and burned about one hectare.

“It is classified as being held,” said information officer Madison Smith from the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Smith told Vernon Matters 22 provincial firefighters worked with crews from Vernon and Coldstream to bring it under control, with the cause under investigation.

Update: 4:05 p.m.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says the fire is one hectare in size, with 11 B.C. Wildfire Service personnel on site along with the Vernon and Coldstream fire departments.

Crews are working on a grass fire that has broken out south of Vernon.

It is said to be just off Highway 97 near Bailey Road, the turnoff to Predator Ridge Resort.

Fire crews from Vernon, Coldstream and the province are battling the blaze.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has limited information on it other than its 10 km’s south of vernon, adjacent to the highway and very visible to drivers.
