Aug 21, 2019 | 1:28 PM

Get ready for a wild ride when you go to the Vernon Towne Cinema on August 26th where Okanagan Screen Arts Society will be showing the incredible sailing film, Maiden.

This is the story of Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, who became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989. This is a film that leaves a huge impression on you with the original footage including images of gigantic waves and ice bergs making it totally authentic. The film chronicles the crew’s superhuman levels of courage and endurance and you feel as if you are sailing around the world with this fearless female crew and sharing their epic achievements.

This is a must see film for anyone who has ever been told they will never make anything of themselves. It is truly inspirational and a testimony to human resilience against all the odds. Women of all ages should see this movie and believe they can accomplish anything.

Director Alex Holmes’ interviews Tracy Edwards and much of her crew, as well as some of her opponents, in recounting the tale of Tracy, the runaway British teenager, who somehow stumbled into the world of competitive sailing and became the first woman in history to be awarded the Yachtsman of the Year Award in 1990.

Showtimes at 5:15 & 7:45 p.m. Pre-show intro by resident Film maker, Matt McDowell. Enjoy live music in the lobby before the early show courtesy of Les Copeland. Cash wine bar open for both shows.
