Sunset parade sees off 900 cadets

Aug 15, 2019 | 9:50 AM

After six weeks of training, 900 army, sea, and air cadets from across Western Canada will finish off their hard work with a graduation parade in Vernon.

The sunset parade takes place tonight at 6 p.m. at Dieppe Square across from the main camp on Highway 97 at the south end of town.

The public is invited to attend.

This was the 70th year of operation for the Vernon Cadet Training Centre.

The Vernon camp is one of four training centres in B.C. and the only one on the mainland.

Cadets who are selected for summer training attend at no cost to themselves or their families.

“We are very proud of our presence here in Vernon, and the warm welcome we receive each year from businesses and residences,” Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Miroslav Novak said in a statement.
