UPDATE: Telus says Lumby service restored

Aug 13, 2019 | 10:37 AM

UPDATE:

A Telus spokesperson reported at 4 p.m. that cell and internet service in the Lumby area had been fully restored.

UPDATE:

A Telus spokesperson has confirmed issues with its services in the Lumby area but has stated the problem should be rectified later Tuesday.

“Starting yesterday, our cell site in Lumby began experiencing issues and as a result, service to customers in the immediate area has been disrupted,” said Telus media spokesperson Liz Sauve. “A technician is currently en route with a back-up generator and we anticipate service will be restored to all customers early this evening.

“Our first priority is to restore service, and then we will investigate what caused the disruption in the first place.”

Sauve thanked customers for their patience.

“We understand how much our customers rely on our wireless services, and we want them to know our priority is to fully restore their service as soon as possible.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

Telus cellphone and Internet service in the Lumby area is out for a second day, residents reported Tuesday morning.

“This is day two,” said a resident who did not want to be named. “We still have no service in Lumby.”

Residents are not the only ones affected.

“I know of two stores in Lumby that sell Lotto but can’t,” resident Cindy Proctor said. “Because of the outage their Lotto computers can’t work.”

“Yes, the lottery machine has been down since yesterday,” a spokesperson at Super A Foods said.

Proctor expressed frustration with the Telus service after attempting to contact officials.

“I myself tried to phone Telus yesterday afternoon, as many have, and the wait time to talk to an agent was over four hours,” she said. “They do have a recording at the beginning of my call that mentioned they are having email issues.

“Then online, on Twitter and other social media outlets, others have posted that Telus says there is no issue.”

Vernon Matters has contacted a Telus official who has promised to look into the outage.
