Popular West Kelowna wine route closing briefly for maintenance

West Kelowna is putting the finishing touches on its seasonal Wine Route refresh, with crews set to carry out maintenance work along a key stretch of Boucherie Road later this week.

The District says Boucherie Road between Hayman Road and Stuart Road will be closed Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. to allow crews to complete spring maintenance ahead of the summer tourism season. The work is part of annual upkeep on the popular corridor, which includes landscaping and roadside improvements used heavily by visitors and local traffic during wine season.

Crews will be installing flower baskets, adjusting irrigation systems, and carrying out mowing, trimming, pruning and weeding along the route.

Because of the nature of the work, the closure will include all lanes as well as bike lanes and sidewalks in the affected area.

Motorists are being asked to use Highway 97 and Hudson Road as alternate routes during the closure period. Officials are also reminding drivers to slow down and watch for crews working near traffic zones and along detour routes.

The District thanked residents and commuters for their patience as the seasonal maintenance work is completed ahead of peak summer travel.
