Registration open for programs to protect RDNO properties from wildfires
Residents within the Regional District of North Okanagan have a chance to protect their properties from wildfires this year.
The RDNO’s FireSmart Chipping Program will allow people to have tree branches, shrubs and other woody debris picked up from their properties and disposed of from April 1 to October 31. The service will be offered on specific dates during the course of the program and people interested in taking part can register online here.
The RDNO will also be offering consultations through its FireSmart Home Assessment Program. This program sees a trained Wildfire Mitigation Specialist visit properties where they will identify potential hazards and provide practical recommendations to enhance fire resilience. People can register for the assessment program online here.
The RDNO stated that residents who take proactive steps to manage vegetation, reduce fuel sources and improve property maintenance can significantly increase their resilience to wildfires.
