Coquihalla Highway reopens after overnight closures
The Coquihalla Highway reopened in both directions late Thursday morning following multiple vehicle incidents that closed the route Wednesday night.
The northbound lanes between Hope and Merritt reopened at 11 a.m., while southbound traffic resumed around 10:30 a.m., according to DriveBC. The highway had been closed since about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday due to a series of crashes and non-compliant commercial vehicles at mandatory chain-up locations.
Crews worked through the night and into the morning to clear the highway, which had been blocked between Exit 202 and Exit 217 northbound, and between Exit 231 and Exit 217 southbound.
Drivers were advised to use Highway 1 or Highway 3 as alternative routes while closures were in effect.
