Fire Fuel Management

Major fire fuel mitigation work to go in Lake Country

Mar 19, 2026 | 6:01 AM

A major project to reduce the risk of wildfires will be done near Lake Country this year.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said it planned to do fire fuel reduction treatments on a 256 hectare parcel of land in the Spion Cop area above Lake Country over the coming years.

That project will begin Friday, March 20, depending on weather and site conditions, and will see 30 hectares of land treated.

The work will involve pile burning, reducing ladder fuels and removing excess fuels from the forest to restore the ecosystem, return a natural process to the land base, create safer conditions for first responders, and reduce the long-term risk of wildfires.
